Sector/Topic Skills for Care’s (SfC) annual ‘State of the Adult Social Care Sector and Workforce in England’ report has shown a decrease in the number of job vacancies in the sector after last year’s worrying data. Care England chief executive Martin Green, however, has warned that the report’s “headline figure” is “not the whole story”. In the 2023/24 dataset, SfC showed that there are now 1.84 million jobs in the sector, 1.705 million of which are filled. The data was collected in March 2024.

Research Some care workers are losing out on almost £4,000 a year thanks to inflation, a trade union has claimed. Union GMB claimed that at least 300,000 care workers lost out on up to £3,698 in pay last year as their wages fell below inflation. ONS figures showed that in April 2010 the average annual salary for care workers and home carers was £12,879, with half of workers paid even less.

Hamilton Springs care home supports adults living with complex mental health needs, dementia, neuro-disabilities and physical disabilities. The home has 37 bedrooms with en-suite wet rooms, split across three units. The home also features communal dining and living spaces, sensory bathrooms, an activities hub, a therapy room and a large accessible garden.
Countdown on for launch of £22.4m care home as New Care expands into South

Build is now officially underway on a new £22.4 million care facility in Kent, with practical completion slated for August 2025. The 67-bed care home will be known as Herne Bay Manor and will be operated by New Care in the small seaside town of Herne Bay. At the start of the year New Care commenced remediation works, including the demolition of much of the site. Part of the existing building has been retained, with the façade still in situ.
