A woman who murdered her parents then lived with their dead bodies in her home for four years will spend a minimum of 36 years in jail. Virginia McCullough poisoned her 70-year-old father with prescription medication that she crushed and put into his alcoholic drinks. The next day, she beat her mother, 71, with a hammer and fatally stabbed her. McCullough, 36, then hid the bodies of John and Lois McCullough in makeshift tombs at the family home in Great Baddow in Essex, a court heard.

Grange Hill star John Alford is facing a trial after being accused of sex offences involving a girl aged under 16. The actor, who rose to fame in the children's drama before starring in London's Burning, is accused of four counts of sexual activity with a child. He is also accused of two counts relating to a second female – of sexual assault and assault by penetration, the CPS said. Alford, of Holloway, north London, denied all charges at a plea hearing in September last year.

The man accused of masterminding a plot to kidnap, rape and murder TV presenter Holly Willoughby has been found GUILTY following a trial. A jury at Chelmsford Crown Court dismissed the 37-year-old’s defence that his plans were a “mere fantasy” and unanimously convicted him of soliciting murder and inciting rape and kidnap. Gavin Plumb, 37, slowly shook his head and looked down at the floor as the verdict was read aloud in court on Thursday afternoon (July 4).
