Two mountain rescue teams have been honoured with a King's Award for Voluntary Service. Northumberland National Park Mountain Rescue Team (NNPMRT) and North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team (NOTMRT) were jointly recognised for their dedication, courage, and commitment. The honour is the highest award given to local volunteer groups in recognition of their outstanding community service.

A man who has spent more than 500 days in hospital with a rare auto-immune condition says he is fearful about his recovery ahead of his discharge after his physiotherapy treatment was cut. Ross Leslie, 62, from Northumberland, suddenly developed Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS), which sees the body's immune system attack the nerves, in May 2023.

It is believed the rescued dog had been trapped in water down the well for several days [BBC]The RSPCA is still trying to trace the owner of a dog left trapped in water down a well for several days. The Caucasian Shepherd was rescued by firefighters using hoses to winch the pet from the 15ft (4.5m) well at Phoenix Sidings in Newton, near Stockton. The animal charity said the dog, which has been named Badger because of its grey and white colouring, is doing well and getting stronger.
