    The board of trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has kicked against the announcement of Samuel Anyanwu as national secretary of the party. In a statement issued on Thursday, Adolphus Wabara, chairman of the BoT, also opposed postponing the national executive council (NEC) meeting scheduled for June 30. Tajudeen Abbas, speaker of the house of representatives, read the letter containing Tinubu’s decision on the bill during Thursday’s plenary.     Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on a state visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. Atu’s defection notice was announced on the floor of the green chamber during Thursday’s plenary, by Tajudeen Abbas, speaker of the house. The lawmaker represents Enugu north/south federal constituency. The legislator cited the protracted wrangling within the opposition party, saying it has negatively affected his duties.

Speaking with journalists on Wednesday after moving a motion on the floor of the green chamber, Tarkighir, who represents Makurdi/Guma federal constituency, said the state no longer lives up to its sobriquet of  “food basket of the nation”, as widespread insecurity has turned it into an “empty basket”.
