What is currently known about this topic? ○ In laboratory settings, simulation-based learning with adaptive feedback can yield significant benefits for learning complex reasoning skills, such as preservice teachers' diagnostic reasoning, compared with simulation-based learning with static feedback. ○ Compared with static feedback, adaptive feedback enhances diagnostic justification skills but not diagnostic judgement skills in a digital simulation.

CORRESPONDENCE 02 April 2024 Research in health, education and social sciences cannot rely on the same measurement precision as that in the natural sciences, because it is based on reports and recordings of what people think, say or do. This generates issues of comparability and validity that are exacerbated by the need to adapt studies to different contexts and target populations.
