In a series of Richmond’s poppy street signs in memory of our fallen soldiers, we share the story of Hayne Court. Born on Aug. 13, 1891, in Guysborough County, Nova Scotia, James Arthur Hayne grew up as an only child. Hayne worked many jobs across the provinces, including as a miner in Alberta, before deciding to relocate to Steveston. It was also at Steveston that Hayne met the love of his life, Lilly nee Fisk. They got married on Sept. 12, 1914, shortly after Hayne’s turned 23.

In a series of Richmond’s ‘poppy’ street signs in memory of our fallen soldiers, we share the story of Hall Avenue and Hall Place. Frederick John Hall was born in Kamloops, B.C. on Jan. 16, 1897. Hall and his parents moved to an area in Richmond called Eburne. As a young adult Hall worked as a mechanic. Hall enlisted when he turned 18 and joined the 47th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force. Prior to being formally enlisted, Hall was a member of the 72nd Seaforth Highlanders Cadets.

AbstractThe high genetic diversity of influenza viruses means that traditional serological assays have too low throughput to measure serum antibody neutralization titers against all relevant strains. To overcome this challenge, we have developed a sequencing-based neutralization assay that simultaneously measures titers against many viral strains using small serum volumes via a workflow similar to traditional neutralization assays.
