A day before his 26th birthday, Zane Smith led the way for NASCAR’s underdogs with a seventh-place finish in Sunday’s (June 8) FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway. On a day where both of his teammates finished 27th or worse, Smith carried the torch for Front Row Motorsports, notching his second top-10 of 2025. After qualifying 10th, Smith stayed up front in stage one. While he was unable to grab any stage points, he ended the stage in 12th.

William Byron came four laps shy of a win in Sunday's FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan, as a fuel mileage gamble didn't pay off and forced the No. 24 down pit road in the closing laps. While a heartbreaking loss, Michigan was the third race in a row where Byron was in contention throughout the race. It's the second of those three races where he's led the most laps. Meanwhile, Kyle Larson hasn't looked like himself over the same three-race stretch at Charlotte, Nashville and Michigan.

A week after he tied his career-best finish with a runner-up finish at Nashville, it looked like everything was coming together for Carson Hocevar to score his first NASCAR Cup Series victory at his home track in Michigan International Speedway. Fuel mileage didn't appear to be in Hocevar's favor, as while those behind him were in a position to save enough gas to make it to the finish, Hocevar was not. It was going to take a miracle in order for Hocevar to make it to the checkered flag on gas.
