A daily pill from Eli Lilly lowered blood sugar levels and induced weight loss in people with Type 2 diabetes, the company announced Thursday. The experimental pill, called orforglipron, is a GLP-1 drug — the same class of medicine as the blockbuster diabetes and weight loss drugs Ozempic, Wegovy and Mounjaro. Orforglipron is taken orally, however, not as a weekly injection.

An individual in New Mexico tested positive for measles after death, the state's health department said Thursday. The official cause of death is still being investigated, the New Mexico Department of Health said, but the deceased individual was positive for the measles virus. The person, who was unvaccinated, didn't seek medical care before they died, the health department said. Measles is spreading rapidly in West Texas, with 159 cases as of Tuesday.

SEMINOLE, Texas — When Aganetha Unger pulled up her large, white van to the emergency measles testing site, several of her eight children were coughing. “We had some sickness in the house, not very bad, but some fever, some cough,” said Unger, who is Mennonite. One child, she said, had a fever of 103 degrees. Her youngest getting tested was a 2-month-old, wrapped tightly in a pink blanket on her mom’s lap. When the EMS team swabbed her nose, she didn’t cry.
