ELMIRA, N.Y. (WBNG) -- On Thursday, the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office announced it had begun an investigation into human skeletal remains found. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the human skeletal remains had been discovered by hunters in a wooded area off Bowlby Road, in the Town of Elmira. At that time, no identification information was available to identify the deceased.

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WBNG) -- On Thursday, Cal Harris announced a $100,000 reward for information about Michele Harris’ disappearance at a press conference. Michele Harris disappeared on Sept. 12, 2001, and is presumed to be murdered. She was last seen at the foot of her driveway on the 12th, next to her van, arguing with a man believed to fit the description of Stacy Stewart. Michele has not been seen or heard from since the morning of the 12th.

NEW YORK (WBNG) -- The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, or DEC, reminded New Yorkers today that turtles nest in May and June. The DEC’s Acting Commissioner Amanda Lefton encouraged motorists to “Give Turtles a Brake.”Turtles are often spotted on or near roads this time of year as they search for sandy areas or loose soils to lay their eggs. Thousands of turtles are killed each year by unsuspecting drivers when they cross roads to find nesting areas.
