Body A local pastor surrendered to Palatka Police Department detectives Wednesday amid an investigation over his alleged inappropriate relationship with a child, authorities said. Palatka resident Leo Alfonzo Parker, 42, was charged with sexual battery of a minor, the police department reported on a Facebook post. Parker is the pastor of Emerge Church of Palatka, 1015 Washington St. in Palatka.

Putnam County second graders sat in awe along the Palatka riverfront Friday as they learned from historical figures from the 1700s. The children learned about the travels of 18th-century explorer William Bartram, who journaled his travels through what is now Putnam County, with the help of members of the Bartram Trail Society of Florida in Putnam County and local organizations, like the St. Johns River Water Management District.

After more than five decades in the same building, the Palatka Daily News is relocating. The Daily News will be open for business at 220 Second St. in Palatka at 9 a.m. Monday, having left behind its 1825 St. Johns Ave. property. The change in location is not bringing about a change in the paper’s printing schedule. Charlie Douglas, owner of the newspaper and Bass Capital Radio, said he wanted the Daily News to return to its original riverfront home.
