Developmental language disorder (DLD) is the consensus term for neurodivergence characterised by challenges with speaking and listening that restrict communication. Difficulties with speaking might manifest as delayed early language milestones, saying less overall, and use of simple sentences with reduced vocabulary, which are difficult for listeners trying to follow the child's intended meaning.
