The Atlanta Motor Speedway in Henry County is now Echo Park Speedway. Green smoke erupted as Gov. Brian Kemp pushed a button to reveal the racing venue's new name on Tuesday. The seven-year naming rights contract is part of a multimillion dollar branding deal with auto retailer Echo Park. Kemp said that the speedway continues to have a significant economic impact on the state and tourism. "$250 million estimated economic impact a year supporting, obviously, thousands of jobs," Kemp said.

The Georgia Supreme Court is upholding a state law that bans most Georgians under 21 from carrying handguns in publicThe justices said in ruling Wednesday that while Georgia's constitution guarantees the right to bear arms, the state legislature determines how they are carried. Georgia State University law professor Anthony Michael Kreis said the court's unanimous ruling is based on the state constitution, not a Second Amendment debate.

U.S. Rep. Nikema Williams wants more money for the early childhood education program Head Start amid fears of possible federal funding cuts. Williams is doubling down on her promise to expand Head Start, a program that provides free school readiness programs to low-income children. Williams visited the Andrew and Walter Young YMCA in Atlanta to meet the children and families enrolled in the program there. " They just get that extra edge," she said. "It sets them up for success across their lifetime.

Gov. Brian Kemp is throwing his support behind an energy rate freeze in Georgia. Kemp said at a news conference at the state Capitol on Wednesday that the deal negotiated between Georgia Power and the Public Service Commission is good for consumers and businesses in the state. “That kind of long-term thinking is shared by our utility partners, and that’s why energy in the state of Georgia is so reliable, plentiful, and will remain so for decades to come,” he said.
