The Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement is kicking off Juneteenth celebrations this weekend. While Juneteenth will officially be observed on Thursday, June 19th, the AADM is hosting a flag raising ceremony on Saturday, June 14th at Athens City Hall. Mokah-Jasmine Johnson is Executive Director and Co-founder of the nonprofit. “It’s not just the flag raising, it’s like a reenactment of what happened for Athens’s Day of Jubilee,” Johnson said.

Opponents of President Donald Trump’s administration are rallying in hundreds of cities around the nation this Saturday and Athens-Clarke County is among them. The Athens rally will take place on Saturday, June 14th at College Square Plaza from 5 to 7 pm. Shellby Branch is chair of the Athens-Clarke County Democratic Committee.
