Costa Cruises, a Carnival Corporation brand focused mainly on the European market, will further downsize its fleet by 2026, as the cruise line plans to part ways with one of its longstanding vessels. The Costa Fortuna, a ship with a storied history, will be transferred to a new (as yet unnamed) owner in September 2026, the company confirmed in a May 9, 2025, update.

Royal Caribbean is running a new sale to celebrate travelers born in September and October. The brand created the Royal Birthday Bash in honor of the fact that September and October are among the most popular months for birthdays in the United States. From now through June 5, travelers can use code BDAYBASH when booking sailings departing between August 30 and October 31.

Viking’s newest Nile River ship has reached a key construction milestone. This week, Viking Thoth touched water for the first time. To celebrate, the company held a traditional “float out” ceremony at Massara shipyard in Cairo. Soon, the ship will head to a nearby outfitting dock for the final stage of construction, including the interior build-out. The 82-guest Viking Thoth is slated to debut in October, joining seven other Viking vessels in Egypt.

Holland America Line is honoring the life and legacy of Joska, a beloved serve animal and frequent guest aboard the line’s ships. To celebrate Joska, who died in February at the age of 12, the cruise line hosted a ceremony onboard Rotterdam on May 2. Holland America Line installed a special plaque in the elevator bay next to the ship’s atrium to commemorate Joska’s life of service and loyalty to her owners Cornelia and Cornelis Marinussen, who are both legally blind.

Carnival Cruise Line is streamlining the shore excursion process by testing a new mobile application with some tour partners. The digital platform eliminates the need for physical shore excursion tickets and provides enhanced functionality. After successfully integrating the platform in Australia earlier this year, the company is now trialing the app with select tour operator partners in some destinations in The Bahamas and the Caribbean.
