Cognition change is one of the most hypothesized mechanisms for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptom improvement (Brown et al., 2019). Clinicians can facilitate cognition change through Socratic dialogue by helping individuals explore their beliefs and then evaluate and potentially change them considering existing evidence. Worksheets that guide patients to evaluate their thoughts and the connected evidence also can be used to facilitate cognition change (Resick et al., 2024).
