    UKIAH, CA., 6/20/25 — The city of Ukiah held a town hall at the Ukiah Conference Center Thursday to offer additional information and answer questions from the public about the city’s controversial annexation proposal. The proposed areas that would be absorbed into Ukiah city limits are Millview to the north and Willow to the south of Ukiah. Past meetings have been criticized by residents for being full of presentations by city officials without ample time for questions and comments.

    MENDOCINO CO., 6/7/25 – A salmonella outbreak linked to a large egg recall has made dozens of people sick in seven states in the West and Midwest, federal health officials said Saturday. The August Egg Company recalled about 1.7 million brown organic and brown cage-free egg varieties distributed to grocery stores between February and May because of the potential for salmonella, according to a posted announcement Friday on the Food and Drug Administration’s website.

    MENDOCINO CO., 6/1/25 – Campers can now leave cash and checks at home when booking a campsite at more than a dozen Mendocino National Forest campgrounds, forest officials said last week.  The new Scan & Pay program allows campers to scan a QR code at a campground kiosk that opens the Recreation.gov site and takes the camper to the payment page for that particular campground.  If there is no cell service available, the payment will show “pending” and be processed once reception is available.

    The Mendocino College Foundation and Redwood Valley-Calpella Fire Department Volunteers signed an agreement to offer a $1,000 scholarship to a student pursuing a first responder career, the college said last week. The inspiration for the scholarship program was the Mendocino College students, Fire Lt. Megan Turner Brown said.   Last year, Brown served as a guest proctor for students enrolled in Ukiah High School’s first responder Career Technical Education program.

    MENDOCINO CO., 5/28/25 – The first heat wave of the year will arrive in Mendocino County on Friday, triggering the National Weather Service to issue a heat advisory.  According to the weather service, temperatures as high as 105 degrees are expected in parts of the county on Friday.  Laytonville, Leggett, Potter Valley, Redwood Valley and Willits can expect highs in the mid-90s.  Calpella, Ukiah, Covelo and Hopland will hit the 100s.
