LOS ANGELES -- A day off isn’t a magical fix for a scuffling ballplayer, but an opportunity to reset can nonetheless prove hugely valuable. Just ask Michael Toglia. Through his first 16 games of 2025, Toglia went homerless as he struggled to get much going offensively. It got to the point where manager Bud Black decided to take Toglia out of the lineup for a day, sitting him for Tuesday’s middle game at Dodger Stadium.

Just days ago, it was unclear if Mookie Betts would be ready for the Dodgers' home opener. For two weeks, the shortstop had dealt with an undiagnosed illness that caused him to vomit every time he ate solid foods, leading to him dropping 18 pounds, down from 175 to 157. His condition kept him out of the Dodgers' season-opening games in Tokyo, as well as two exhibition games against the Angels on Sunday and Monday.
