Knowing God’s providence doesn’t guarantee easy sleep. It isn’t Nyquil. We may go to bed every night feeling like the Hamans of the world will still win. Trusting in God’s providence isn’t magic. It’s a daily habit of remembering the gospel. The gospel is the greatest evidence of God’s providence. God plans, accomplishes and applies our salvation (Eph 1:3-14). God’s good providence was at work before we were even born. My anxieties get excited when I go to bed.

Six months ago, I knew almost nothing about Francis Schaeffer besides his signature look: dressed like a hiker, with long hair and a goatee. His short book Escape from Reason was all I had read of him. From reading Colin Hanson’s biography of Tim Keller, I knew he was an influential Christian apologist with a unique ministry, L’Abri retreat and study center, but I had no first-hand knowledge of what made Schaeffer tick.

A Toronto woman has capped off her months-long mission to race from coast to coast to outpace a debilitating disease affecting hundreds of thousands of Canadian families, including her own. Earlier this year, Stephanie Fauquier had her sights set on racing 500 kilometres in 10 triathlons across 10 provinces this summer to raise awareness and money for Alzheimer’s research. She achieved her goal on Sept. 17 after wrapping up the Niagara Falls Barrelman Triathlon.
