George Russell accused Formula 1 rival Max Verstappen of letting himself down with “totally unnecessary” driving that he likened to bad online racing, after their controversial clash in the Spanish Grand Prix. Verstappen hit Russell at Turn 5 late in the Barcelona race, attempting to re-pass the Mercedes driver immediately after complying with an instruction from Red Bull to let Russell go by after Verstappen had previously stayed ahead of him by going off-track at Turn 1.

Verstappen was left vulnerable in the final stint of the Barcelona race as during the late safety car period Red Bull opted for a pitstop and a change to hard tyres - a compound universally avoided by the rest of the grid in this race after its poor performance in practice.

Aston Martin has been formally warned by the FIA over Lance Stroll’s failure to comply with Formula 1’s driver weighing procedure after Spanish Grand Prix qualifying, despite Stroll subsequently withdrawing from the race altogether. Stroll was eliminated in Q2 at Barcelona and was therefore required to be weighed immediately at the end of that segment of qualifying.

Lance Stroll has withdrawn from Sunday’s Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix and will undergo a procedure with an undisclosed recovery time. The Aston Martin driver had qualified 14th at Barcelona, where team-mate Fernando Alonso was 10th fastest. However, Stroll - who has scored all 14 of the team's points so far this season - will not take part in Sunday’s race.
