WICHITA – Delia Gregory’s tears proved to be as invincible as she was in a one-lap sprint around the Cessna Stadium track. Such were the emotions for the Blue Valley North senior, who completed the final afternoon and early evening of her Mustang career by running the fastest 400 meters in Kansas girls history and anchoring her 1,600-meter relay team to a fourth consecutive Class 6A title at the State Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

For the longest time, throwing 60 feet in the shot put was clearly the goal for Joey Goodenow. Even during his freshman season when he was only maxing out at just under 46 feet. At that point, the distance seemed so far off. And the arugment could be made that even though the St. Thomas Aquinas junior progressed quite nicely through his first three seasons for the Saints, it was still quite a ways out there even a year ago.

WICHITA – As recently as a week before the State Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Andale junior Rylee Meyer ran the 100 meters fast enough to believe she could take down the Class 4A meet record. But believing and doing are different things. So when Meyer ran 12.06 to win her second straight state title and erase former Piper speedster Danyelle Cole’s previous gold standard of 12.12 set in 2010, her reaction was flavored with a bit of surprise.
