The Mustang baseball team began a busy week of games May 27 with a varsity doubleheader at Cardinal. The Mustangs struggled defensively in this twin-bill and came home with a pair of losses. Cardinal won the opening game 12-6 and finished off the Mustangs with a 10-0 win in the second game. Davis County did come out aggressively on offense in the opening game. Peyton Schooley worked Cardinal pitcher Kazin Miller hard.

The Mustang baseball team dropped to 0-4 in South Central Conference play following a pair of losses to Centerville on May 30. Centerville won the opening game 6-2 and finished the night with an 11-6 win over Davis County. Davis County struggled in the opener getting just one hit from Josh Settles. Fortunately, Davis County was able to make that hit count as Settles moved a runner into scoring position. Max Taylor secured a one-out walk in the top of the second to get on base.

Culee Smith and Abby Warning finished their 2025 tennis season on May 30 with a pair of matches in the Iowa State Tennis Tournament. The tournament was held at Byrnes Park in Waterloo. Warning and Smith faced Izzy Norton and Aidalyn Tott of Dike-New Hartford in the opening round. Those girls were the number three seed in the bracket. Warning and Smith lost the first set 6-1. They bounced back a little better in the second set, but still lost 6-3. “We struggled with confidence in our shots.

The Lady Mustang softball team split a doubleheader with Fort Madison on May 28 to improve to 1-2 on the season. Davis County beat Fort Madison 12-3 in the opening game before letting a 5-2 lead slip away in the second game for an 8-6 loss. Davis County bounced back from a disappointing season opening loss to Cardinal to secure a big 12-3 win over Fort Madison less than 24 hours later.

The Lady Mustang softball team opened the 2025 season with a South Central Conference game at Cardinal. The Comets handed Davis County a 9-0 loss in a game that lasted just six innings. New mercy rules dictated the end of this game in the sixth. Mercy rules say games can end in the fourth if the score difference is 10 runs. However, in the fifth inning or later, the game can end if the score shows an eight-run difference or larger.

The Lady Mustang tennis team will finish the regular season Saturday as they take part in the Maharishi Tournament. Action begins at 9 a.m.

The Lady Mustang golf team travels to Oskaloosa Tuesday for the South Central Conference Tournament. Action begins at 10 a.m. at Edmonson Golf Course. The girls finished eighth in the Ottumwa Tournament that was held Thursday. The girls shot a 437 team score.

The Mustang boys' golf team finished third at Chariton Thursday shooting a 318 team score. Hayden Utt shot a 77. Tucker Bish shot a 79. Davis County returns to action Monday playing in the South Central Conference Tournament. Action begins at 10 a.m at Cedar Creek Golf Course.
