    The Mustang boys’ track team opened the 2025 outdoor season with a meet at Van Buren on April 3. Davis County ran well and scored several placings in the meet. Team scores were not compiled from the meet, so team placings were not made available. Blaine Meyer showed his early season speed for the Mustangs in the individual events. He won both the 100 meters and the 200 meters. In the 100 meters, he paced the field of runners with a time of 10.95 seconds. Caidin Fine also ran for Davis County.

    The Iowa High School Athletic Association Monday released the football schedules that will be used for the 2025-2026 football seasons. Davis County is in Class 2A District 7 during this next two-year cycle. The Mustangs will begin the 2025 season on Aug. 29 with a game against Pekin. That will be a home game. They will follow with a game at Chariton on Sept. 5 and then a game at Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont on Sept. 12. Class 2A District 7 play will begin on Sept. 19 with a home game against Centerville.

    The Mustang boys’ tennis team won’t be able to win any team meets this season, but will play singles matches. The team has just three players in Gavin Klaus, Cole Davis and Jeff Erp. The boys also don’t have a coach for the 2025 season, so they are practicing with the girls’ team every day. The boys took on Keokuk on April 1 to begin their season. Klaus took on Tyce Hoppe in singles and played a strong match. Klaus scored several points and won several games.

    The Lady Mustang tennis team opened the 2025 season with a 7-2 win over Mount Pleasant on April 3. Davis County scored wins in all but one singles match and all but one doubles match. Davis County’s Abby Warning and Culee Smith scored a dominating win in the number one doubles match during the meet. They beat Bethany Drury and Audrey Richmond 8-1. Alyssa Rudd and Ali Lawson teamed up to play Hali Crane and Zoey Carlsen. The Davis County duo scored an 8-4 win in that match.

    The Lady Mustang track team finished second in their first track meet on the road last week. The girls competed in the Clarke Dewitt Invitational. The meet was held in Osceola on April 3. Davis County finished second in the team standings with 119 points and battled with Creston all night long to see which team could finish on top. Creston edged out the Lady Mustangs to win the meet with 121 team points. Davis County finished with eight place winners in the individual races.

The Mustang boys' and girls' track teams both won first place in the team standings at the Centerville Coed Relays Thursday. The boys scored 128 points while the girls scored 114 points. Both teams beat Keokuk who finished second in both divisions.

The Davis County Jazz Department will be sharing “Notes of Sweetness” Monday night. The high school and middle school Jazz Bands will perform at 7 p.m., in the High School Commons. The Music Boosters will be serving desserts and snacks during the concert.

The Lady Mustang tennis team will host Fort Madison Tuesday in a meet that was rescheduled from April 1. Action begins at 4:30 p.m.
