The late newspaper columnist Bill Wundram of the Quad-City Times in Davenport wrote seven days a week for 31 years. Many of his columns, highlighting a wide variety of concerns in his home community, included the refrain, “Is anybody there? Does anybody care?”That plaintive question came to mind Tuesday as I listened to Iowa senators debate what is likely to be the lone bill this year addressing nursing home regulation. The Mustang boys’ track team opened the 2025 outdoor season with a meet at Van Buren on April 3. Davis County ran well and scored several placings in the meet. The Mustang boys’ tennis team won’t be able to win any team meets this season, but will play singles matches. The team has just three players in Gavin Klaus, Cole Davis and Jeff Erp. The boys also don’t have a coach for the 2025 season, so they are practicing with the girls’ team every day. The boys took on Keokuk on April 1 to begin their season. Klaus took on Tyce Hoppe in singles and played a strong match. Klaus scored several points and won several games.
