Beginning Fall 2025, the University will institute a digital course materials program that will set a flat rate for students to access all required textbooks and course materials online, the Office of the Provost announced in a community-wide email Tuesday. The fee will not cover recommended materials for courses. Students will automatically be registered for the program when they register for classes, but they can opt out of the fee until the course add/drop date.

USC was among 60 universities “under investigation for antisemitic discrimination and harassment” that received a letter from the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights warning them of potential “enforcement actions” if they are found to not be protecting Jewish students, according to a Monday Department of Education press release. The Office for Civil Rights enforces Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 for schools that receive federal funding from the Department of Education.

The Trojans’ lone tournament at Norman Stadium this spring shifted from sunburns to sweatshirts and celebration to senior send-off — stuffing a full season of home history into one weekend. No. 3 USC beach volleyball (8-2) put together a near-perfect sweep of the Battle for Los Angeles. On Saturday, the Trojans secured 4-1 victories against both No. 16 Washington (3-5) and No. 8 Long Beach State (3-3).

Student Health has observed a second “peak” of influenza cases on campus, Chief Campus Health Officer Dr. Sarah Van Orman said Tuesday in a briefing with campus media. Van Orman said if the percentage of primary care visits pertaining to flu-like illness is above 3%, the risk of getting the flu is high. A report displayed during the briefing showed a nearly 5% rate at USC in the most recently recorded week — Jan. 26 to Feb. 1.

National Labor Relations Board hearings began Jan. 7 after the University challenged unionization efforts among research, teaching, practitioner and clinical-track faculty. The hearings were postponed due to the Los Angeles fires until Thursday. If the RTPC faculty wins the hearing, then a majority of eligible votes cast will decide whether or not a union will represent the group. The faculty filed a petition to the NLRB to unionize Dec. 10, 2024, under the United Auto Workers as United Faculty-UAW.

The Undergraduate Student Government overhauled its leadership Tuesday night as a new president, vice president, speaker of the senate, affordability and basic needs committee chair, and two new senators took office at the senate meeting. Former vice president Brianna Sánchez was sworn in as president after Bryan Fernández announced his resignation from the position Nov. 21.
