National Labor Relations Board hearings began Jan. 7 after the University challenged unionization efforts among research, teaching, practitioner and clinical-track faculty. The hearings were postponed due to the Los Angeles fires until Thursday. If the RTPC faculty wins the hearing, then a majority of eligible votes cast will decide whether or not a union will represent the group. The faculty filed a petition to the NLRB to unionize Dec. 10, 2024, under the United Auto Workers as United Faculty-UAW.

Former Executive Senior Associate Athletic Director Joyce Bell Limbrick filed a lawsuit against USC Thursday in Los Angeles Superior Court for race and gender harassment, discrimination, retaliation, the failure to prevent such and defamation. The lawsuit centers around former Athletic Director Mike Bohn and the alleged harassment that occurred under his management from 2019 to 2023.

Faculty for Justice in Palestine and Students for Justice in Palestine — both advocacy groups not affiliated with the University — held a silent vigil outside President Carol Folt’s Holiday Reception on Monday night. About 15 people were present, holding signs and banners and unrolling a list of names of those killed during Israel’s war in Gaza. Music from inside the reception at Town & Gown could be heard outside.
