Hamilton’s Arkells were back in the city Friday promoting their Rally concert Saturday at Hamilton Stadium, meeting with hundreds of fans. Saturday is shaping up to be the perfect day as the Arkells are set to host another much-anticipated edition of “The Rally” at the stadium. Back where it all started, on the street they named their band after – which now has a new name: Arkells Alley. This is where the band first met while going to McMaster University.

The mayor of Burlington, Marianne Meed Ward says abuse and harassment is experienced at every level of elected leadership. And she’s asking fellow politicians and the public to treat elected officials with respect. She’s launched an online pledge called Elect Respect and is asking colleagues and the public to sign it. Meed Ward says she’s been harassed as an elected official and many of her female colleagues have as well — and something needs to be done.

The City of Burlington is once again asking the province to step in and put an end to building homes on the golf course in Millcroft. Right now, certain parts of Millcroft Golf Course are being redeveloped for new homes. But the city, along with residents, don’t want that to happen, and they also don’t want the developer to go after more land on the golf course and build even more homes. Hundreds of trees have already been cut down to make room for 90 new houses.

According to Niagara Health, both Fort Erie and Port Colborne urgent care centres will see reduced hours over the summer due to a critical shortage of available physicians. “This is a physician shortage issue. And it’s not unique to Niagara. This is happening right across the province, across Canada and globally actually. It’s an issue that has hit us,” said Chief of Staff for Niagara Health Dr. Kevin Chan. Heather Kelley has lived in Fort Erie her whole life.

Saturday marked the 36th annual Moon in June Road Race fundraiser held in downtown Burlington, which has raised over $1 million for local charities. All monies raised from the road race this year will go directly to the Children’s Aid Foundation of Halton (CAFH), to help more children receive the timely help they need. The road race is one of the longest standing charitable running events in Halton, with runners and families taking part in one of many featured courses.
