The first part of April already featured one major game release with Compulsion Games South of Midnight for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers. The hits keep coming as we approach the second half of the month with Clair Obscur Expedition 33 and Tempopo as Day 1 drops on the service. Along with Towerborne debuting on cloud and console, and Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II debuting as well.

Many were stunned when Sloclap, developers of the well-received action game Sifu, unveiled their next game at the most recent Game Awards in December was not a follow-up to that title or even something more akin to it. Instead, the team showed off Rematch, an online 4-vs-4 or 5-vs-5 arcade style soccer/football game. Featuring players in a small arena doing fancy footwork and pulling off some big time shots.

Although Sony isn’t as boisterous as their console rival Xbox in lauding the “Day 1” games that are added to their subscription service, they do still have their moments, especially for indie titles. Joining the likes of The Plucky Squire and Tchia, the April 2025 lineup for PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium features another standout indie game, which launches today, in the form of Blue Prince.

The June showcase season is beginning to take shape with Summer Game Fest already set for June 6. Nintendo releases the Switch 2 a day before on June 5, which most likely means a Summer Nintendo Direct is in the cards, and now Microsoft has joined the fray with the Xbox Games Showcase set for June 8. Followed by a special direct focused on The Outerworlds 2. Microsoft’s annual event promises looks at upcoming first-party titles along with third-party games.
