KELLER, Texas — Despite reading stories about creepy critters and creatures, the first graders at Freedom Elementary in Keller knew monsters weren’t real. Or so they thought. “I felt surprised,” said first grader Ella Jean Nieto. “I never heard about that,” first grader Evan Maharjan said. Their amazement came from some friendly monsters down the street at Keller High School.

DALLAS — When 6-year-old Octavia Castillo was diagnosed with cancer, she understandably thought about her hair. But she was focused on just how wonderful losing it might be. “She said, ‘you know, I’m really excited to see what my head looks like without any hair,’” said Silvino Castillo, Octavia’s father. “She was like pulling it out by chunks saying, ‘can we put this in a baggie to give to birds,’” said Octavia’s mother, Jessica.

DALLAS — If you’ve got someone special in your life, you can light up their world with flowers. Or you can just light up the flowers. “It’s the first plant that I’ve seen that glows in the dark,” said Jennifer Hatalski, vice president of marketing for Calloway’s Nursery. Hatalski said the plant is called Firefly. She’s been in the horticulture business her entire life but has never seen anything qu ite like it. “The science behind it is really, really amazing,” Hatalski said.

After years of work, NASA expects the X59 to fly later this year. DALLAS — To make a kid stressed, just say the word “test.”Now just imagine the pressure if that “test” had the potential to alter human history. “Not really pressure but just the excitement and seeing that light at the end of the tunnel is where we’re at,” said Cathy Bahm, project manager for NASA’s X59 program. When NASA entered that tunnel, it was taking a shot in the dark, hopeful it could do what had never been done.
