The ABC understands NSW Premier Chris Minns will be referred to the state's corruption watchdog over his relationship with one of the key figures behind the redevelopment of the Rosehill Racecourse. The parliamentary committee looking at the development proposal has voted to make the referral in its report which will be released on Friday. The decision concerns Mr Minns's relationship with Steve McMahon, head of government relations at the Australian Turf Club.

A genome map shows the healthiest amount of genetic diversity in Queensland and the lowest in Victoria. Researchers from the University of Sydney undertook the task in the wake of the Black Summer bushfires. The researchers said that the new map would be vital in responding to the next major disaster. A research project to compile the first genome map of koalas across eastern Australia has exposed areas where the species is most at risk.

A criminologist and former detective says Friday's petrol station shooting in inner Sydney could trigger retaliation attacks. Emergency crews rushed to Baptist Street, near Cleveland Street, in Surry Hills after reports of shots being fired about 7:45pm. Police said a man in his 30s was alone in a car at a petrol station when he was shot.

A coronial inquest into the Bondi Junction mass stabbing will investigate potential failings in the mental health system and shopping centre security protocols. Joel Cauchi fatally stabbed six people and seriously injured several others inside the Westfield shopping centre in Sydney's eastern suburbs on April 13. An extensive coronial inquest will begin in April next year.
