The long-time angler from West Babylon, Long Island broke a state record for Common Carp by reeling in a 45-pound, 8-ounce carp out of Lake Lillinonah in Southbury on the morning of May 25.     The Department of Energy & Environmental Protection Emergency Response Unit personnel responded to the east end of Waterbury Saturday in the area of Hamilton Avenue for a leaking oil tank. The oil has gotten into the groundwater, a nearby stream and a pond. DEEP officials said that an above-ground tank that contained between 250-300 gallons of oil leaked after an underground line from the tank to the house failed. It caused the leak.

    A 17-year-old Hartford teen is dead after a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his right leg on Sunday morning in East Hartford, police said. At about 5 a.m., the East Hartford Police Department responded to a larceny complaint at The AAA Diner at 1209 Main Street for four people leaving the restaurant without paying their bill, according to the East Hartford Police Department. According to police, an officer saw the suspects entering an Uber and leaving the scene.

    The U.S. Coast Guard rescued two occupants from a plane that crashed into the Long Island Sound southeast of the Thimble Islands near Branford. The “two people were in stable condition and were taken to Stony Creek Pier for EMS support,” according to a post by the U.S. Coast Guard on X. In addition to the U.S. Coast Guard, the New Haven and Branford fire departments responded as well. The crash happened six miles from Tweed Airport.
