Two fire engines were scrambled after a kitchen set alight this evening. Crews were sent to a property in Park View, Sturry, at around 4.40pm to deal with the blaze. They were joined by the fire service’s volunteer response team who helped assist those living at the home. Responders spent almost two hours at the scene before the flames were extinguished before leaving.

A restaurant and bar has been slapped with a mega fine after failing to implement correct fire safety measures to protect staff and customers. The Swan Brasserie Limited, which owns The Swan in West Malling, was fined £30,000 and told to pay an additional £16,405 in costs after a visit more than three years ago from the fire service’s safety inspectors found problems in the garden.

A rental van company owner has called for a notorious bridge road to be shut after having three vehicles written off within half a year. Gary Davolls has been left fuming on numerous occasions after people hiring vans from Regal Rentals have ploughed them into a railway bridge in Bryant Road, Strood. In just six months, three of the company’s vehicles, which cost around £40,000 each, have been left damaged beyond repair.

A couple’s first holiday abroad together turned into a “nightmare” when large parts of Europe were affected by a sudden blackout. Ash Williams and his partner Shannon Bye flew out to Portimao in the Algarve region of Portugal on Monday (April 28) unaware the country, alongside Spain and parts of France, had been plunged into darkness due to a power outage.

Police are at the scene of a crash near a busy tunnel. A collision believed to have involved a lorry and a car is causing delays at Medway Tunnel. One lane of the Strood-bound slip into into the tunnel has been closed as a result and emergency services are at the scene. Traffic is reported to be building at St George’s Roundabout near Chatham Maritime and in Dock Road. Motorists have been advised to find an alternative route. Police have been approached for more information. More as we get it.
