In the world of mountain bike suspension, inverted or “upside-down” forks have always been the outliers. With the inner stanchions below and the outer legs on top, they promise better lubrication thanks to gravity pulling oil towards the seals, lower unsprung mass further improving sensitivity, and improved fore-aft stiffness thanks to those thicker legs where they're needed most. Despite all this, and being the default for high-end motorcycles, they’ve remained a curiosity for push bikes.

When riding alone, the prospect of having a crash and getting knocked out is a nightmare scenario. Certain O'Neal helmets are now available with Quin sensors which detect and evaluate impacts to the helmet and call up to three chosen emergency contacts, providing them with your status and location in real time. Quin says their sensors and software are sophisticated enough to distinguish between a serious crash and an accidental helmet drop, so hopefully there won't be too many false positives.

While enduro bikes have crept ever closer to downhill bikes in capability and toughness, it's been a while since we've seen a manufacturer squarely designate a bike in the freeride category. Ghost describes the new Poacha as "a freeride bike built to push limits". There is no mention of "enduro" or Superrenduro" anywhere in the press release. It sports mixed wheels (29" & 27.5", not 26" & 24") and 180 mm travel front and rear.

Huhn Cycles made a splash at the Bespoked Show in Dresden last year, winning the Best MTB award with their Chabo trail bike. Now, the German micro-brand is starting production, and the bike is available to order. The Chabo (named after a Japanese chicken, in case you didn't know) is designed for everyday trail riding or bike-packing adventures, with 120 mm of frame travel and a 130 mm fork.

Combining an e-bike motor and a gearbox into one unit, eliminating the need for exposed external gears, seems like a sliced-bread-level idea for eMTBs. We even awarded Pinion's Motor Gearbox Unit (MGU) our Innovation of the Year award in 2023. But is it really that good? The Moustache Clutch is the latest of only a handful of bikes using the system. It's a 160/170 mm travel, mixed-wheel eMTB with an aluminium frame and a 780 Wh battery.
