1 Introduction Aging is accompanied by progressively declined motor functions which can be linked to a broad range of neurochemical, structural, and functional changes in the human brain (Seidler et al. 2010). Of particular relevance are aging-related deficits in cortical inhibitory functions, which in turn have been shown to be associated with various aspects of declined motor functions (Levin et al. 2014).

AbstractAging involves complex processes that impact the structure, function, and metabolism of the human brain. Declines in both structural and functional integrity along with reduced local inhibitory tone in the motor areas, as indicated by reduced gamma-Aminobutyric acid (GABA) levels, are often associated with compromised motor performance in elderly adults.
