    When wildfires hit Southern California in early January, Liesl McConchie knew that she and her fellow board members at the Fort Worth-based Corsi-Rosenthal Foundation could take action to help people affected by poor air quality. As a result of the fires, high amounts of chemicals, such as lead and chlorine, were released into the air. The chemicals can cause negative health effects on the lungs, respiratory tract, brain and nervous system.

    Cameron Dudzinski has been passionate about literature from a young age. In third grade he read Tuck Everlasting. When he finished the book, he was brought to tears and his love for reading was born. “That story, not sure why, just really resonated with me at such a young age and from there I started to recognize that reading is actually really fun,” Dudzinski said.

    Students enrolled at Texas Wesleyan have access to TimelyCare, a virtual health and well-being provider, accessible through Canvas. TimelyCare has the capacity to provide all students all year-round with quick and timely care. Dennis Hall, dean of students, has worked closely with TimelyCare since its launch on the TXWES campus in fall 2022. “It is part of what you are paying for here at Texas Wesleyan,” Hall said.

    Alpha Xi Delta raised money for a charity during a bingo night on Oct. 29 in the ballroom of Martin University Center. The sorority and The Kindly Hearts Initiative used this event to raise money for foster care and homeless youth. “The best part is seeing so many people here and knowing that all of the money we’re raising is going towards helping children,” Giovana Moropinto said. Moropinto is a second-year general business student.

    The School of Business and Delta Kappa, a marriage and family honor society, joined forces to host and sponsor Be Well, a mental health and wellness dinner. On Oct. 25, in the Martin Center Ballroom, attendees gathered to talk about topics that some may find triggering. The goal of the event was to inform people about suicide prevention, stress management and sharing mental health resources.
