Air Canada’s sales management team brought together 165 people on Wednesday (June 12) for a festive evening at the Humanity Hotel in Montreal. During the event, PAX spoke with Vincent Gauthier-Doré, managing director, Canada and U.S. sales, at Air Canada. Gauthier-Doré explained that, above all, this great evening was intended to be “a celebratory event.” Indeed it was, because Air Canada had several things to celebrate that led to this evening taking place.

After unofficially launching the celebration of its 100th anniversary at a trade show on March 3, Club Voyages Guertin proceeded on March 18 to the official launch of its centenary at Château Monsarrat in Gatineau. Around 40 guests were present, including the mayor of Gatineau, Daniel Champagne, partners, members and ex-members of the team — and even Philippe Gauthier, grandson of Aimé Guertin, who founded the agency in 1924!PAX was also there.

PAX now knows which company Judy Makara has landed at. After a successful 13 years of working at Barcelo Hotel Group, Makara has left the hotelier to accept a position at Sandos Hotels & Resorts as a business development manager for Quebec and Atlantic Canada. Makara succeeds Maryanne Dubé, who recently left Sandos to become director of business development at Exoticca for Quebec and New Brunswick. (Ms. Dubé succeeded Anne Palardy in March 2022). Sandos says it is delighted to welcome Makara.

After some 13 years with the Barcelo Hotel Group, Judy Makara has left the company, PAX has learned. Makara was the brand's director of business development, covering all of Canada. “I resigned at the beginning of January. My last day was January 31,” said Makara, speaking to PAX's Quebec bureau from London, where she is currently located. Makara is in high spirits, however. She is in England to be with her daughter, who became a mother last month. This makes Makara a first-time grandmother.

Some 14 Canadian travel advisors recently participated in a FAM to Mexico organized by Playa Hotels and Resorts. The group was accompanied by Christopher Jeffrey Racine, business development manager for Playa, who noted it was the first time it organized and coordinated a bilingual FAM, representing well the region he oversees, which extends from the Atlantic provinces to the Ottawa region and includes Québec.
