Pope Francis, the first Jesuit and first non-European to serve in the role in centuries, died Monday morning at the age of 88. The Vatican said Francis died of a cerebral stroke that led to a coma and irreversible heart failure. He had been sick for weeks after contracting a life-threatening case of pneumonia. A date for his funeral has not been set yet but Francis will be buried in the Basilica of St. Mary Major in Vatican City.
