LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - After a narrow defeat to Sen. Elissa Slotkin in November, 2024, former U.S. Rep Mike Rogers has officially announced he will run for Senate again in 2026. Rogers made the announcement on social media early Monday morning. Rogers, a republican, joins the race for Michigan’s soon to be open Senate seat after Democratic Senator Gary Peters announced he would not run for reelection after his current term which ends in January of 2027.

LANSING, Mich. (WILX/Gray News) - Police in Michigan identified two bodies found in a freezer at an apartment complex last November as the parents of the suspect in the case. The bodies of 76-year-old Susan Barbara Weerawat and 72-year-old Pramort Weerawat were identified using various scientific techniques in the months since the discovery. Their bodies were discovered on Nov. 7, 2024 on Wintercrest Street just off Coolidge Road in East Lansing.

Police investigate double homicide in Jackson County

LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - The Blackman-Leoni Department of Public Safety is investigating a double homicide that happened in Leoni Township. According to police, officers were dispatched to the 6900 block of Welch Lake Rd Saturday afternoon just before 2:00 p.m. When officers arrived on scene, they located a dead body in the driveway and another body was found after a further search of the area. The two deceased victims are a 57-year-old man and a 70-year-old woman.

Crews responded to the reports of an explosion and fire at the GM Proving Grounds in Brighton Township Tuesday morning. Kevin Kelly, a spokesperson for General Motors, said in a statement that the explosion involved one of the oil wells located on the property. The oil well, while on GM property, is operated by a third party.

LANSING, Mich. (WILX/Gray News) - Four people are dead and 17 others injured after a semitruck crashed into vehicles stuck in traffic late Saturday night. The crash happened around 11:43 p.m. on I-96 in Ingham County, Michigan. According to Michigan State Police, the westbound lanes of I-96 were shut down while crews strung power lines across the expressway. When police reopened the lanes, several vehicles were still stopped when a semitruck crashed into the stopped vehicles.

ALLEN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WILX/Gray News) - A 2-year-old girl was hit and killed by a car after sneaking out of bed on Friday, according to the Michigan State Police. The crash happened around 8:20 p.m. in Allen Township, Michigan. Authorities said the toddler was put to bed by her parents but got out of bed and walked out of the home while her parents were working around the house. The girl was walking out onto Chicago Street when she was hit by a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta driven by a 38-year-old man.
Hunter dies after shooting himself in leg at a state park, authorities say

LAINGSBURG, Mich. (WILX/Gray News) - Police in Michigan responded to Sleepy Hollow State Park early Wednesday morning for a report of a shooting. Authorities in Clinton County responded to the call for a 42-year-old hunter from St. Johns who accidentally shot himself in the leg shortly before 7 a.m.Deputies used GPS information from the hunter’s 911 call to locate the man. However, the man had already died from his injuries, according to authorities. The hunter’s name has not yet been released.
