SINGAPORE - A British national featured in a Netflix documentary on scammers has been offered bail of $50,000, with a police prosecutor on April 17 saying she is allegedly linked to offences involving around $500,000 in total. Dionne Marie Hanna appeared in the State Courts via video-link from Central Police Division. When asked by District Judge Brenda Tan if she had a bailor, Hanna replied in a soft voice: “I don’t have anybody to bail me out.”Hanna is not represented by a lawyer.

SINGAPORE – Over three years, a business analyst at a bank reeled in a total of 31 girls and young women with the lure of money and manipulated the victims into sexually exposing themselves to him. Hee Lic Yuan, 32, committed the offences from 2019 to 2021, and the victims were between 13 and 22 years old. On April 16, he was sentenced to six years and nine months’ jail, and six strokes of the cane.

SINGAPORE – A part-time donation collector received around $45,000 from his late adoptive father’s estate, but ended up in debt after patronising a nightspot about four times a week. Yong Chun Hong, who spent around $1,000 on each visit, took loans from unlicensed moneylenders and asked his elderly adoptive mother to sell her home to raise money for his financial woes. The 78-year-old woman said that she could not help him, and they quarrelled.

SINGAPORE - Despite repeated warnings from the authorities, a fish farm continued to operate an unlicensed food processing establishment and an unlawful cold store to keep items such as meat. On April 14, Khaiseng Trading & Fish Farm (KTFF) was fined $19,000 after it was convicted of three charges under the Wholesome Meat and Fish Act. According to the law, processing establishments and cold stores for meat and seafood products can be operated only with a valid licence.
