AbstractInbreeding, or breeding with close relatives, often decreases individual fitness, but mate choice in many species can increase inbreeding risk. Inbreeding is more likely in species with limited dispersal, such as cooperative breeders where non-parental individuals - often offspring from previous broods - provide parental care and frequently breed close to home.

Reading Time: 2 minutesUniversity of Ottawa student Raz Hadar was taken into custody on Sunday afternoon at the Palestine Unified Rally & March on Parliament Hill. The man was allegedly chanting ‘save Palestine from Hamas,’ as well as slurs and obscenities at protestors before being taken away by officers. Hadar, a second-year conflict studies and human rights student, confirmed his identity as the individual who was detained through his social media the day after.

Reading Time: 3 minutes25 community organizations, unions, local advocacy groups, and Horizon Ottawa have signed onto an open letter urging the Ottawa Police Services Board (OPSB) to oppose the approval of a new “Neighborhood Operations Centre” in the ByWard Market. The nearly 3,000 square-foot station was approved to be placed in the CF Rideau Centre across from the Rideau LRT station, for a five-year period starting Feb. 15, 2024.
