The exodus of nursing home operators is forcing many rural patients to move far from their homes, causing them and their families ‘immense stress and hardship’, the head of the crisis-hit sector said this weekend. More than 2,600 nursing home beds have been lost following the closure of 77 homes across the country over the past six years.

RTÉ2 and 2FM will not be put up for sale and are ‘central’ to the plan to reform the crisis-hit national broadcaster, the station’s director general has confirmed. Kevin Bakhurst was responding to queries following the recent publication of his interim blueprint for RTÉ’s future.
