    The Bethel Regional High School Warriors and Lady Warriors cross country teams competed at the Alaska Student Activities Association Division II State Championship Meet on Oct. 5, held at the Bartlett High School trails in Anchorage. The Bethel Warrior boys tied the school’s highest ever placing at state, finishing in fourth place. Head coach Paul Saltzman said that it was an impressive set of times from his runners. “Nearly everyone ran a faster time today.

    The Bethel Regional High School boys and girls cross country teams will compete in the Alaska Student Activities Association Division II State Competition at Bartlett High School in Anchorage on Oct. 5. There, the boys team has a chance to make school history. Headed into the Division II boys championships, the most dominant team is Anchorage’s Grace Christian, a school with a long history of championships and podium finishes.

    The Bethel boys and girls cross country teams won the Big West regional championship meet on Sept. 28, guaranteeing both teams a trip to the state competition. The regional meet took place in Utqiaġvik this year. Only the top placing team and the top eight individual runners advance to state. For the rest of the runners, the meet is the end of their season.

    The Bethel boys and girls cross country teams competed on Sept. 14 at the State Preview meet hosted by Bartlett High School in Anchorage. There, the Bethel Warriors boys cross country team proved to be one of the top Division II teams in the state. The State Preview race challenges hundreds of the fastest runners in Alaska to see where they are as they head into the final quarter of the season. The race uses the same course as the Alaska School Activities Association championship in October.

    The Bethel Freestyle Wrestling Club pinned their way to an Alaska USA Wrestling state championship over the weekend in Wasilla, beating out the Anchorage-based Alaska Battle Cats in a tie-breaker to claim the title. At a packed Menard Sports Center, Bethel wrestler and Gladys Jung Elementary School sixth-grader Maya Iverson led the scoreboard. She claimed first place in all three of the wrestling competitions over the weekend. “It feels amazing and I’m very proud of myself,” Iverson said.
