Bethel Broadcasting, Incorporated, operating under the names KYUK (AM), KYUK-FM, and KYUK-TV, is a non-profit organization focused on providing local, non-commercial public radio and television services to the Yup'ik Eskimo community and other residents of southwestern Alaska. As an affiliate of National Public Radio and Alaska Public Radio, as well as a member of PBS through the Alaska One Public Television Network, KYUK plays a vital role in the region. The station is based in Bethel, Alaska, a town located along the Kuskokwim River in the Yukon/Kuskokwim Delta area of southwestern Alaska.

    In May, residents of Bethel began to tap into fiber internet speeds on par with Anchorage for the first time ever as part of the launch of the AIRRAQ network, a partnership between communications provider GCI and Bethel Native Corporation. On June 3, leaders on both the tribal and private sides of AIRRAQ made the launch of the fiber-optic network official in an event held in Bethel at the Association of Village Council Presidents, Regional Housing Authority building.

    Searchers have located the remains of one of the two men who went missing after a skiff they were traveling in sank near Mekoryuk, according to Alaska State Troopers. The body of 65-year-old Albert Williams was located on Wednesday, May 28 on the east side of Nunivak Island around 20 miles from Mekoryuk, troopers said. Local individuals, Alaska State Troopers, a United States Coast Guard vessel, and a Bethel-based National Guard helicopter joined in the search.

    Aside from a possible brief opening to harvest summer chum salmon, 2025 will be the sixth consecutive year of total salmon fishing closures on the Yukon River. Beginning June 1, the first of a series of rolling salmon fishing closures will go into effect on the lower Yukon. The closures will then work their way upriver, following chinook and summer chum salmon on their journey toward the Canadian border.
