We analyzed data from the NHANES, UKBB and the Shanghai Pudong cohort. 502,244 individuals participated in the UKBB follow-up survey during 2006–2010. After excluding participants with missing serology, physical examination parameters, outcome variables and covariates, 305,285 individuals remained, of whom 164,357 had hypertension (Figure S1). US NHANES, a research program, is designed to assess the health and nutritional status of individuals in the United States.

Previous observations have shown that there is a link between galaxy morphologies and their structure characteristics, such as bulges, discs, bars (Seigar & James 1998; Kendall, Kennicutt & Clarke 2011), pitch angles (Kendall, Clarke & Kennicutt 2015) and molecular gas content (Yu et al. 2022). The morphological and structural characteristics include the processes of star formation and quenching of galaxies.

The data collection was conducted in Shanghai from August through November 2022. A multi-stage probability sampling approach was applied to collect the data for this study. In the first stage, we used a stratified random sampling protocol to divide the region into central urban areas; sub-central areas; and other areas. Two administrative districts were selected from each of the three types of areas.
