One in four city children do not know how to swim, according to city data. That number is lower for Black and Asian children, where data show one in three kids do not have swimming skills. One nonprofit is trying to change those numbers. The Fresh Air Fund offers free summer camp experiences, including swimming lessons. A new book by a Brooklyn author is meant to be a clarion call for anyone who has ever felt like an outsider. The book, “I’ll Look So Hot in A Coffin,” is written by Carla Sosenko. Sosenko writes of her rare vascular disorder, and how she’s navigated the world in a body different from others. Specifically, how she has dealt with mental health, relationships and self-image. A new initiative is working to tackle the growing mental health crisis. Emmy Award-winning musician Rachel Platten showcases a video teamed up with legendary fashion designer Kenneth Cole to create a toolbox for people in need of help in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month. Kenneth Cole and Rachel Platten joined “News All Day” on Friday to discuss mental health. Kenneth Cole is donating all of its sales through May 4 to support mental health.

April is Sexual Violence Awareness Month, a call to action to prevent sexual abuse, assault, and harassment across the country. The NYPD said it investigates 14,000 sexual assault complaints every year. According to the National Sexual Violence Resource Center, 1 in 4 women have been victims of a rape or attempted rape. There’s a designated office in city hall that educates New Yorkers and provides resources to those in need.
