    An El Campo truck driver died Tuesday after he was ejected from his overturning semi-truck northeast of New Taiton. Department of Public Safety Sgt.     Six people standing before El Campo City Council Monday night represented more than 100 years of expertise in keeping municipal operations running. The Public Works Department members received a standing ovation from council and the audience shortly after Mayor Eugene Bustamante declared May 18 to 24 as National Public Works Week. “We are one of only 16 Public Works Departments in Texas that are accredited,” Public Works Director Kevin Thompson said.

As part of the bond sale, council learned the city retains the AA- bond rating it acquired in 2013, according to Standard and Poor’s, indicating a strong capacity to meet financial commitments. S&P rates entities on a scale from AAA to D with anything below BBB being considered speculative.
