A highway near Steinbach has made it onto the list of Manitoba's Worst Roads. As part of the annual CAA Worst Roads campaign, Manitobans named Highway 12 as the 7th worst in our province. According to CAA, this is the first time Highway 12 has made it onto this list. The 2025 CAA Worst Road is Highway 34 in Central Plains/Pembina Valley. Frustrations with potholes, poor road maintenance, poor road signage, and unpaved roads pushed PTH 34 to the number one spot.

The Member of Parliament for Provencher was part of Canadian history on Tuesday. Ted Falk sat in the Senate on Parliament Hill as King Charles read the speech from the throne. "It's the first time in Canadian history that a king has actually read the throne speech," says Falk. "It was a very unique experience." Tuesday marked the first day back for Parliamentarians following the April 28th election win by the Liberals.

Our province has announced plans to reopen more of Whiteshell Provincial Park, beginning tomorrow morning. Effective Thursday at 9 am, residents, cottagers, commercial operators and day visitors may return to the following re-opened areas in Whiteshell Provincial Park: South Whiteshell areas: Star Lake, Hunt Lake, Caddy Lake Blocks 4, 9 and 10, and West Hawk Lake west shore and south shore subdivisions. North Whiteshell areas: Brereton Lake, Red Rock Lake, White Lake and Jessica Lake.

Manitobans are urged to be fire smart as wildfires continue to burn out of control in our province. Kristin Hayward is Assistant Deputy Minister, responsible for the Wildfire Service. She says as of late Tuesday, there were 18 active wildfires in our province. The total number of fires so far this year in Manitoba is 96. By comparison, the 20-year average for fires by May 27th is 77. "So, we are well above average," she remarks.

Council for the Rural Municipality of Hanover has established its RCMP priorities for this year. Each year, the municipality comes up with a list of what it would like to see police focus on. The municipality is policed by both Steinbach RCMP and St. Pierre RCMP. Reeve Jim Funk says the list is the same for both detachments. The three priorities for this year are to be present in the municipality, road safety and a focus on crime. Funk says this list has not changed from last year.
