Madlock batted .375 (9-for-24) and had a .483 OBP for the champion Pirates. His career bWAR of 38.2 towers over others born on Jan. 12.

SAN DIEGO -- Four young Tigers formed a circle behind home plate Thursday night, arms intertwined. They were the only ones making noise in a sold-out Petco Park. Parker Meadows hushed the crowd with two outs in the top of the ninth inning by hitting his first career grand slam in the Tigers' 4-3 victory over the Padres. Meadows got enough of All-Star closer Robert Suarez's full-count 100.7 mph fastball to send it over the left-field wall.

SAN DIEGO -- Joe Musgrove showed no rust against the team from the Steel City. San Diego’s favorite son returned from the injured list and pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings Monday night in the Padres’ 2-1 victory over Pittsburgh at Petco Park. Musgrove allowed only two hits and one walk while throwing 63 pitches. The right-hander, who struck out just one Pirates batter, missed more than 10 weeks because of inflammation and triceps tendinitis caused by a bone spur in his pitching elbow.
