    The German discount chain was granted permission for the new Harleston shop in October 2022. However, Lidl bosses said in 2024 that they were unsure when the development of the store would be complete, with "no firm timescales" given for the opening. There had been a wrangle over how much Lidl should pay South Norfolk Council in what is known as the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL).

    Collen's Green in Lyng will be closed from May 19 to May 23 to allow workers to remove the existing road surface and replace it with a new surface material. A full road closure is required for this work to take place and to maintain a safe working area for the council's subcontractors. A signed diversion route will be in place for the duration of the closure, with pedestrian access being maintained at all times.
