A man was shot in Shelby Wednesday night and police said a teenager has been arrested and charged. Shelby Police Capt. Seth Treadway said a man was shot in the backyard of a house on the 600 block of East Warren Street around 8:40 p.m.The man was first transported to Atrium Health Cleveland and then airlifted to Charlotte, Treadway said. He said the man's status as of Thursday was critical but stable.

A tractor trailer carrying a load of lumber ran a red light at the intersection of Marion Street and Highway 74 early Thursday morning, struck a car and then ran off the road and into the side of Comfort Inn near Cleveland Mall, according to Shelby Police.

Kings Mountain will be hosting its annual Juneteenth celebration next month and will feature a Grammy award-winning record producer, artist, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter. Ron Feemster, a 1999 graduate of Kings Mountain High School, is one of the performers at this year's celebration, which is scheduled for Saturday, June 21, at Patriots Park in Kings Mountain.

Kings Mountain City Council approved economic development incentive grants for a project that is expected to bring more than 700 jobs and millions in investments. Matt Blackwell, assistant city manager, said "Project Nexus," as it has been code named, is a recruitment project that the city has been working on collaboratively with the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina and Gaston County Economic Development Commission.

A man on foot attempting to cross the road near the Patterson Springs’ Ingles was struck and killed Saturday night, according to North Carolina Highway Patrol. First Sgt. J.R. Crotts said the incident happened around 9:30 p.m. near the intersection of Pleasant Hill Church Road and N.C. 180. He said the man, who was identified as Derek Hegge, 57, of Shelby, was pronounced dead at the scene.
