A Kings Mountain man was sentenced to federal prison Tuesday for carrying concealed weapons including what’s referred to as a ghost gun. The conviction stems from an altercation with Charlotte Mecklenburg Police in the fall of 2023. According to court records and proceedings, in the fall of 2023, police were monitoring an area in Charlotte for criminal activity.

A 4.8-mile section of the Shelby Bypass, from N.C. 226 to N.C. 150, opened this week. The new section includes 12 bridges, three interchanges, and three roundabouts at N.C. 150. Construction continues on sections D and E, extending the bypass to U.S. 74 and U.S. 74 Business in Kings Mountain, respectively. A 4.8-mile segment of the Shelby Bypass opened this week in Cleveland County, according to the N.C. Department of Transportation.

Emergency crews responded to a possible drowning call around 5 p.m.The victim, William James Corn Jr., was recovered from the lake but resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful. A Lattimore man drowned in Moss Lake Saturday, according to Kings Mountain Police. The department got a call just before 5 p.m. about a possible drowning at the lake off of Highland Circle.
