Gaston County restaurant owner Bobby Gerald Duncan will pay $1.53 million to settle allegations of misusing pandemic relief funds. Duncan allegedly used funds intended for Hillbilly’s Barbeque and Steaks to purchase a FedEx business. The settlement resolves allegations, and there has been no determination of liability. xThe owner of a popular Gaston County restaurant has agreed to pay more than $1.5 million to resolve allegations of fraudulently taking and using pandemic relief funds.

The skunk tested positive for rabies at the N.C. Laboratory of Public Health. The dog was euthanized due to lacking proof of rabies vaccination. This is the fourth confirmed rabies case in Gaston County this year. A family pet had to be euthanized after it came in contact with a rabid skunk. Gaston County Police Animal Care and Enforcement got a call Friday evening about a dog that had killed a skunk in the 2300 block of Whitworth Road, Cherryville.

A man has been charged with second-degree murder in a crash that killed a Gastonia woman. Raterrio Titian Sheppard, 38, of Gastonia, has been charged with second-degree murder, felony hit and run causing serious injury, engaging in a speed competition, careless and reckless driving and no operator’s license. Sheppard is accused of killing 36-year-old Porscha Mason.
