A Golden Age comic book cover's job was a simple one. It essentially had to depict the protagonist and antagonist in some kind of struggle. Or it could just show the protagonist in a striking pose. As comic books entered the Silver Age, covers had a tougher job. They had to convince an audience to buy a particular book over the other competing books. Silver Age comics were built on outlandish adventures, and the covers proved even more extreme.
